Shopping Tips - How to have a Successful Shopping Trip

Shopping Tips - How to have a Successful Shopping Trip

I am a bit of a serial shopper and today I am sharing my top tips on how to have the best shopping experience! No need for stress or buyers remorse if you follow these basic tips!

1. PLANNING
Before going anywhere near a shop or start putting anything in your basket online, plan what you are looking to add to your wardrobe. Start by looking through your current wardrobe to see what is in there and what is missing. Purge to lose items you can't see yourself wearing and make space for new hero pieces that will make you look more put together everyday. Look at what bloggers are wearing or check out the key trends online to get an idea of how to update your wardrobe - but never buy something just because it is 'on trend' - know your style and be realistic. What occasion are you buying for? How much wear will you get out of the item? What is your budget - write I down and stick to it! Consider taking out the cash and leaving your cards at home to make sure that you don't over-splurge.

2. TIMING IS EVERYTHING
If you are planning a big shopping trip you may want to avoid pea times - especially Saturdays. Try shopping on a Sunday or weekday mornings for a stress free experience. Or shop online from the comfort of you own home. If you are looking for new season items and especially sough-after items that have been show in the media, ask the sales assistant when your store will get stock in and make sure you arrive bright an early to snap it up!

3. TAKE TIME
Your shopping trip will feel rushed and hectic if you try to cram it into your lunch break or if you have half an hour before you collect the kids from school. Instead make arrangements so that you have at least a full hour to really take the time to look around the store and especially if you intend to try things on in-store. You are much more likely to come away feeling good about the experience as well as buying things that you actually want and need.

4. BASKET THOSE 'MAYBE' ITEMS!
If anything that is a 'maybe' into your basket and then purge before checking out - otherwise you might go back for something only to find that they no longer have it in your size or you cannot for the life of you remember where you saw it! Nothing more frustrating!

5. TRY EVERYTHING ON AT HOME
Once you get home try everything that you bought on alongside existing items in your wardrobe to make sure that they fit in with what you already have. Make sure that you can see yourself wearing everything. Consider getting a second pair of eyes (partner, mum, friend) to give their honest opinion. If you have picked something up that you really will not wear (no matter how 'on trend' it is) take it back to avoid buyers remorse. If you think it really is a 'hero piece' and although it doesn't fit your shape or style it is likely to be popular and sell out, consider selling it on eBay (or similar) at a premium. But give yourself a deadline of, say, one week and if it doesn't sell on eBay for the price that you want take it back!

Finally - enjoy every minute because shopping is supposed to be fun! If you have planned properly beforehand and followed these steps there will be no need for regrets or buyers remorse. You will come away with great pieces that fit in with your existing wardrobe and can be worn time and time again, season upon season. Give yourself a pat on the back and save a smile for those shoppers who are rushed, stressed and unsure because that will never be you again!
